Excellence in Language Studies Award, Latin
Student Name: Allison Grace Aghjayan
Major: Latin and Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology (NBB)
Bio: Allison is a senior double majoring in Latin and NBB: Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology. She is thankful to have had the opportunity to study both disciplines while at Emory, and enjoys observing the connections between them. She became interested in Latin in high school and has furthered her studies in college with the support and encouragement of the Emory Department of Classics. Similarly, she knew she wanted to study NBB at Emory, and she values their department’s varied academic opportunities, which have allowed her to research in the Lilienfeld Lab and study abroad in Scotland. In addition to her studies, she has a campus job in the Pitts Theology Library creating Metadata for the library’s Digital Image Archive. Her Latin knowledge allows her to translate inscriptions that are on several images. She is also the treasurer for Reformed University Fellowship, and has been on their softball team this semester. She performs with the student-run tap group on campus called Tap That and has taken dance classes at Emory in order to continue her dance hobby. She also volunteers once a week at the Emory Brain Health Center.
