Bio: Shiyi Chen is a junior at Emory University pursuing Economics & Mathematics and Japanese double major. She started taking JPN101 and 102 soon after entering the college, but it was not until she spent summer in a two-month language program in Hakodate, Japan that she finally made up her mind to major in Japanese. Have taken several trips to Japan alone, she is obsessed with the traditional culture and enjoys interacting with people with different background. Besides her interest in Japanese studies, she also spends time fulfilling her duty as a teaching assistant for several Emory Economics classes and as a trip leader for Emory Pawsitive-Outreach, an organization hosting weekly trips to the nearby animal shelter. Next semester she will participate in another study abroad program at Kwansei Gakuin University, expecting a breakthrough in both language learning and cultural understanding.
